Leading Aberdeen-based industrial cleaning and waste disposal company, MS Industrial Services Limited (MSIS), has successfully completed a highly specialised contract with international oil and gas marine and drilling support service company, Offshore Marine Services (OMS).

The contract – worth around £500,000 – saw MSIS carry out specialised cleaning of the slop tanks onboard the Hess-owned Triton FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) vessel for OMS, which provided the project management on behalf of Wood Group Engineering, the FPSO operators.

And the project, which involved MSIS removing 350 tonnes of hydrocarbon contaminated sand 25 metres vertically from tanks using its innovative PTS (Premier Transfer System), has been hailed a great success.

MSIS has recently expanded the range of specialised services it offers clients and this project saw the company use its new sand cleaning system for the first time.

The system was used to remove any possible hydrocarbon traces from the sand which, as a result, could then be discharged overboard.

Graham Holloway, MSIS’ contracts manager, says he is delighted this major project has been delivered so successfully.

He said: “Our growing expertise in FPSO cleaning is becoming a major focus for the business with a growing number of companies recognising our PTS is ideally suited for use on FPSOs, and that we have the experience and expertise to carry out this kind of work.

“Previously, companies sent dozens of men into tanks to manually scrub and clean them. However, with our PTS, only a few men are required to complete the operation far more effectively and efficiently, meaning less personnel are required onboard – a key consideration for FPSOs where there is limited room to manoeuvre and operate, as well as limited bed space.

“We are also delighted the project presented the opportunity to use our new sand cleaning system and I am sure this additional service will play a key role in the growth and future success of MSIS.”

OMS’ UK Ltd Director for Marine Operations, John Reid, added: “We were very impressed with the commitment and productivity of the MSIS team – and ultimately, the results of the project.

“The MSIS personnel plus ourselves were able to integrate their work on the Triton into the vessel’s normal working day, without any disruption to operations onboard.”

Working in a variety of sectors, MSIS undertakes waste management, high pressure jetting, CCTV surveys, LSA decontamination, vacuum tanker hire, specialist coatings, oil spill response services, environmental management services and premier transfer systems.
