In today’s increasingly environmentally conscious world it is becoming ever-more important to protect against harmful emissions while helping to minimise global warming and its impact.
The business community is also taking note of the current situation, and with more and more companies adopting environmentally friendly practices such as energy saving lighting and recycling, the green message is undoubtedly spreading.
One company that is very aware of the importance of following correct environmental procedures is Aberdeen-based industrial cleaning and waste disposal company MS Industrial Services Limited (MSIS).
The company, which also has a base in Invergordon, is very mindful when it comes to implementing the necessary practices and regulations it adheres to.
Waste management is one of the key specialist services that MSIS offers, and accounts for over a quarter of the company’s activities.
MSIS was recently awarded its Pollution Prevention Control (PPC) permit from SEPA, enabling the company to continue to operate its waste transfer station. The permit covers a variety of criteria including installation activities and techniques, management procedures, waste streams, waste disposal methods and energy consumption.
As an existing waste management licence holder, MSIS had to submit an extensive application – because of a changeover in regulations – to continue operating its waste transfer station in Invergordon. Designed to hold, retain and ship out various hazardous waste types, the waste transfer station is purpose built to meet MSIS’ client needs.
Tony Farquhar, MSIS environmental support manager says the permit is just one of the many ways in which the company demonstrates good environmental practice.
He said: “We are fully aware of the environmental requirements surrounding the industry and the PPC permit is just one of the many ways in which we are adhering to legislation. Procedures surrounding environmental practice are extremely rigorous and require a great deal of attention – it is all centred on continual improvement and better service for our clients.
“I am delighted that we have been issued with our PPC permit, it is extremely rewarding for the company to see the hard work being recognised, especially after the regulatory changeover.”
Although all companies are required to be more environmentally aware, MSIS, because of the nature of the business, is even more accountable in complying with latest regulations, which also incorporate health and safety.
As environmental awareness and legislative requirements increase throughout industry sectors, it is ever-more important for companies to maintain and improve their environmental performance through effective management.
Mr Farquhar added: “We aim to help all client companies contribute towards national recycling targets by reducing the volume of waste ending up in landfill. It is very important to us that we continue to operate on the principle of economic and environmental sustainability and help our clients to achieve these objectives.
“Through our environmental management service we can assist clients in a number of different ways, helping them to improve environmental performance. Legislative compliance and collaboration with public bodies, waste management solutions and oil spill contingency planning are among the services we can offer.”
Working in a variety of sectors, MSIS undertakes tank cleaning, waste management, high pressure jetting, CCTV surveys, LSA decontamination, vacuum tanker hire, specialist coatings, oil spill response services, environmental management services and innovative vacuum transfer systems (VTS).
